In 2019, New Mexico introduced the Measures of Student Success & Achievement (NM-MSSA) to take the place of the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) and SBA testing. The NM-MSSA assesses student proficiency in English Language Arts/Literacy and Mathematics.

All students not designated for alternate assessment in Grades 3-8 take the NM-MSSA in ELA and math. Eligible English Learners in Grades 3-8 may be assigned the Spanish Language Arts version of the assessment.

The NM-MSSA is a computer bases test (CBT) but can also be taken as paper bases test (PBT). Schools have the flexibility within the testing window to schedule sessions to best meet student needs.

Limited Knowledge, Partial Mastery, and Mastery. "Limited Knowledge" indicates that a student has not yet demonstrated a basic understanding of the state standards. "Partial Mastery" indicates that a student has a basic understanding of the state standards but has not yet demonstrated full mastery. "Mastery" indicates that a student has demonstrated a full understanding of the state standards.
