Author Bios
Marisa Adams has over 15 years of experience in public education,working as a teacher and administrator at the elementary, junior high,and high school levels. After receiving her undergraduate degree from Texas A&M University, she earned her Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership and Human Resource Development from the University of Houston.
Julie Lyons is a public school teacher with over 15 years of experience in NJ and PA as a teacher and instructional coach at the elementary and middle school levels. After receiving her UG degree from Millersville University, she earned her Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership and Administration from Immaculata University and then went on to pursue additional PG work for her Supervisor’s certificate at Rutgers University. Julie enjoys writing about topics related to education, teaching and learning.

“Summative assessments – especially standardized tests – often present the biggest concern to teachers and students. Fear of what the test will assess and how it will look often dominate the teacher’s thoughts and, over time, can override best practices of classroom teaching. “Teaching to the test” often becomes the norm; and instead of genuine, higher level, critical thinking and learning, students are faced with “drill and kill” items that are designed to help students get through the test.”
“The Summative Assessment (SA) will be administered once 90% of the school year is complete. It will consist of a literary task, a research simulation task, and a narrative writing task. Students will be given a set amount of time to read several texts (many of which will be paired together for the upper grades), answer several vocabulary and reading comprehension questions, and write a short essay.”
