Melissa Bloom is a respected leader in K-12 education with over 20 years of experience driving transformative change in school districts, educational organizations, and edtech companies. As the founder and CEO of Expanse Strategists LLC, Melissa has dedicated her career to supporting schools in improving instructional practices, enhancing teacher effectiveness, and closing achievement gaps.
Melissa’s extensive background includes serving as President of Instructional Empowerment (IE), where she led the development and implementation of research-based instructional models focused on equity, Social Emotional Learning (SEL), and rigorous core instruction. Under her leadership, IE partnered with districts nationwide to deliver professional development that empowered teachers and administrators to elevate student learning experiences, reduce achievement disparities, and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
Before her tenure at IE, Melissa was Vice President of Professional Services at Learning Sciences International (LSI), where she directed large-scale evaluation and SEL initiatives. Her work included collaborating with leading educational experts like Dr. Robert Marzano and CASEL to implement evidence-based frameworks in schools. Melissa’s expertise in curriculum development, teacher coaching, and data-driven decision-making helped districts adapt to evolving educational needs, particularly during the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Earlier in her career, Melissa served as Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Personnel for District 303, where she led district-wide curriculum initiatives, oversaw instructional leadership programs, and enhanced teacher development. Her focus on equity in education increased access to advanced coursework and improved student outcomes across diverse populations. A recognized expert in educational leadership, Melissa brings a deep understanding of best practices in instruction, professional development, and strategic planning. She holds a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Aurora University and has advanced certifications in Predictable Success and Harvard’s 6 Team Conditions model. Melissa continues to serve on advisory boards for educational and nonprofit organizations, offering her expertise to shape the future of teaching and learning.
